Aishwarya AVRaj

Aishwarya AVRaj (she/they) is an independent multimedia journalist, writer, educator, and artist. Their work, spanning multiple genres, emerges from a deeply rooted commitment to envisioning a world built on equity. They focus on the intersection of caste, gender, and sexuality in relation to laws, policy, implementation, and civil rights. Their approach aligns with advocacy journalism, using data based storytelling as a tool for social change. A recipient of the UNFPA Laadli Media Awards for gender-sensitive writing on three occasions, Aishwarya has contributed to renowned national and international platforms such as Outlook, The Mooknayak, The Leaflet, The Quint, and The Project Polis. Their work spans diverse genres, including ground reports, critical essays, and interviews. Aishwarya is contributing as a researcher-writer for the Class 10 textbook developed by an NGO dedicated to combating child sexual abuse through an institution-driven approach. This textbook will be implemented in schools across 25+ states in India. Additionally, they are building a reading community ‘Mere Ekaant Ka Prawesh-Dwaar’ to create a collective reading culture of anti-caste, feminist literature.
